Are you looking to get some experience in the political realm and work with a team that’s trying to make the world a better place? If so, we encourage you to apply for the Think Big Campaigns intern program.

Who or what is Think Big Campaigns?

Think Big is focused on finding, developing, and helping amazing candidates get elected in Pennsylvania and across the country. We’re also working with issue advocacy groups and nonprofit organizations to advance their brands and grow their lists of supporters and advocates — all in an effort to make our world a better place.

In 2018, we worked with State Parties, State Democratic Caucuses, and candidates for every level of office on the ballot from Congress to State Rep. and everything in between. As a result, we had an incredibly successful year and helped to elect more Democrats than ever before.

Okay, so what does Think Big Campaigns do?

Think Big Campaigns specializes in the digital to field transition on campaigns. Our work starts with digital operations – performing research, analyzing districts and data, setting up websites and social network pages, creating content, and drafting emails.

We progress to digital organizing where we find and manage volunteers online and then spur them to offline engagement.

Finally, we make the transition into the field where we manage the work of campaigns and their volunteers to turn out voters and win campaigns!

If you’d like to learn more about a few of the projects on which our work was featured you can check out the OUR WORK section of this site.

Tell me more about the Think Big Campaigns Intern Program

Glad you asked. But first, a question. Do you remember doing volunteer work or interning for a campaign or a company, and being excited about all you were going to learn? And then when you showed up, they just stuck you in the corner and asked you to do data entry?

That happens when there is no plan, no organization. That happens when they just want someone to do their grunt work. That’s not how our program works.

How we do it at Think Big Campaigns

A Think Big Campaigns intern gets involved in every step of the process from beginning to end of real campaigns with real candidates. Data entry and research is part of everything we do, but after that work is done we don’t stick you in the corner. We analyze the data together. We take time to understand it, absorb it, and then we use it to make predictions about how things will be and then start to plan our campaigns accordingly. Your input and insight are valued in that process, and the unique work you bring to the table makes its way into the very fabric the campaign.

We’ll be right by your side while we perform research together, when we create the strategy and campaign plan, and when we go out into the field for events, house parties, canvassing, and more.

What type of projects will I be involved in?

In every cycle, at least one intern has proposed a project of their own, which we supported, funded, and helped bring to completion with that intern at the helm. For example, one of our interns started a project to help students start Democratic clubs at their colleges. We published a guide helping them organize, manage, and fund their operations. As a result, several universities opened clubs where there were none before. One intern used her data skills to analyze districts with amazing accuracy. As a result, we revamped the district analysis we use on every client project. Another intern used his coding skills to help us map precincts to districts and census bureau data. That led us to new back-end architecture for our Vote Local program.

Projects like that have turned into essential resources for candidates and groups across the country, and are still used today. That’s why some of our previous interns have gone on to work for prestigious campaigns, and some are even running campaigns. Others are working for senators, congresspeople, and other elected officials. Some now work for Think Big Campaigns full-time.
