Services: Website Design and Development
Operation Better Block was founded to tackle socio-economic challenges facing the the Homewood neighborhoods of Pittsburgh block by block, using ground-up community organizing and development. What sets Operation Better Block apart is its use of data-driven urban planning initiatives to make real, lasting change in the community.
OBB wanted to highlight it’s block meeting strategy whereby stakeholders within the community hold meetings to discuss and move forward neighborhood planning at the very local levels. They wanted an events calendar to show these events and allow people to RSVP to them as well.
The first thing the site visitor sees is a direct call-to-action asking them to input their address, to see what OBB is doing in their backyard. Also prioritized on the homepage are events and programs.
We created a way for OBB to display it’s cluster plans for each neighborhood along with a community calendar highlighting the neighborhood events and combined cluster meetings.
We also trained the staff on multiple occasions on how to update the site, manage the postings, and create new events and articles.
Any Homewood resident who happens upon the site or gets involved with content leaves fully engaged in the programming.
